What is the best work-related advice you have been given?

"You're the expert, walk into the room acting like one." This advice came from one of my professors my senior year of college. As someone pretty fresh out of school I can attest to finding it hard to walk into a room full of professionals and feel 100% confident. But in the end I think it’s important to think back to all the work that's led you to where you are today, and realize take control of the knowledge you've gained and skills you've mastered along the way.

How do you define success?

Those who know me know that I am extremely competitive, especially when I was younger. If I wasn't winning I was failing. As I've grown older I've realized that's not the case at all - actually very far from it! To me success is all about growth. Even if you lose you can have great success from learning from that loss and keep going.

What do you do for professional development?

Since graphic design is becoming increasingly more accessible there are so many resources available online. As a Learner I am constantly looking for new techniques to help drive our content forward in. Tutorial videos and Adobe Creative Cloud forums are my bread and butter to help myself learn, and frankly keep up, with all the new things our programs have to offer.

What are some skills that have helped you succeed in your field?

The willingness to put yourself out there and fail a few times before getting it right is a skill that I think is important to any creative field. You're going to have crazy, wild, out-of-the-box ideas that won't work but if you get them out into the open it can help create the spark for the right solution.

What is one thing you cannot live without?

It’s hard to imagine my life without my cat Star. I've had her since I was 10 and she has become part of our family. Her favorite activities are eating bacon and hissing at stray cats that come onto our porch!

What is on your bucket list?

I have a goal to make it to all 50 states by the time I'm 50. It all started on a mother-daughter trip to New England in 2012 where we visited 5 states in 5 days. So far I've been able to make it to 32!
