Agriculture: Growing a Climate for Tomorrow

This National Agriculture Week of 2022, the National Ag Week theme “Growing a Climate for Tomorrow” reflects the industry’s ability to take on big challenges and turn them into opportunities. It takes strong aptitude, steady hands, countless sleepless nights, and early mornings out of bed before dawn to address the important demands to grow and raise food for a hungry planet. Anyone who knows a farmer or any agricultural professional, understands the magnitude of thought that is put into raising livestock and each new growing and harvest season. A strong agricultural economy supports an increasing world population, yet few people reflect on what it takes to raise the corn and soybeans that are used to provide our meals, the hard work it took to get it to the table or the unique challenges ag professionals face today.

This year especially, ISG is proud to support our producers from farm to table, as they tackle every new challenge. To help producers achieve their production goals, we offer innovative solutions across multiple business units and disciplines from water resources drainage engineering to food and industrial site and facility design. We support our producers throughout every step of the process.

Providing Expertise in the Field

Across the Midwest, ISG’s water resources team provides the expertise needed to improve crop production while also managing water quality and environmental requirements. ISG navigates the complexities of agricultural production, environmental regulations, and integration of the best land and water management practices that are most effective based on specific conditions. Our engineers continually work in partnership with drainage districts, landowners, County Boards, drainage staff, regulators, and other agencies to develop the most effective and customized water quality plans that enhance conditions for production.

As part of this collaboration, the ISG water resources and environmental teams assist landowners and ag professionals in navigating the complex permitting process to bring efficiencies to projects that can take years of strategic planning to put in the ground. Whether designing field drainage solutions that help enhance production or navigating permits, our teams are made up of dedicated professionals that are experts in GIS, mapping, design, drone footage and visualization, survey, construction administration, and collaborating with landowners, regulatory agencies, and identifying funding opportunities.

Providing Food Production Solutions

ISG also designs for agriculture and livestock facilities and has contributed to a number of key projects with regulatory agencies to develop best practice manuals, adding another layer of understanding and involvement to the firm’s services. Carrying the experience and insight gained through these local activities, ISG’s services for livestock operation facilities are backed by a commitment to the industry, as well as a first-hand perspective on the positive impacts a successful project will have on the surrounding economy and beyond.

A major component of food production is designing facilities that are able to move food to the final step of the farm to table process. ISG offers its architecture, engineering, environmental, and planning services for high performance new food facilities, renovations, and expansions.

We know that food safety, labor efficiency and maximum production capacity are priorities of all food processors. We deliver safe, hygienic/cleanable designs that meet GFSI requirements, HACCP standards, USDA and FDA regulations, increase efficiencies and protect initial investments and assets for food production clients. We work hard to design facilities that are cost-effective, efficient, safe, and sustainable to meet the needs of each processor and put good food on tables.

Invested in Ag Communities

Not only does ISG provide facility and site expertise across the agricultural and food processing sectors, but the firm is also deeply invested community leaders. Firm professionals serve on numerous local and regional boards for organizations dedicated to promoting growth across the Midwest.

Whether designing a drainage system with water quality best management practices, a hog barn, or a food production facility expansion, ISG offers innovative solutions, expertise, and a listen-first attitude for agriculture clients to grow for tomorrow. We are proud to support our agriculture industry in multiple ways because agriculture supports all of us.

Why a Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment is Critical to Project Success

In the world of real estate development and land acquisition, the road to success is paved with thorough planning and attention to detail. One often overlooked but crucial step in the due diligence process is the Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment (ESA). Before a client begins any project, ISG often conducts a Phase 1 ESA to identify any recognized environmental conditions (RECs) that could impact the property's value or pose potential risks to public health and the environment. The result of the assessment influences the project’s direction and success long-term.
